The Ports of Hull, Grimsby, Immingham, Goole and Selby
by Snowbow Productions
This DVD, produced using exclusive archive film, takes us back in time to the mid20th century, to visit these great North East ports in their heyday, allowing us to experience just what it was like back in the days when they were crammed full of ships, and visitors like us could just wander around the docks as if we were an everyday part of their operations.
We start in Hull in the 1940s and go through to the 1960s, looking at all the ports in this area to see just what they were like in an age when working conditions in the docks were often far from easy, but it was also an age of freedom and adventure, and an age when Dockers were only too pleased to be able to work.
There’s great footage of ships both arriving and sailing, and being worked at their berths. There is also beautiful old film showing the general hustle and bustles of those once very busy ports, giving us lots of tugs and coasters to enjoy as well as all the larger ships.
This DVD, which has taken over a year to make, is a testament to the days when the UK could boast of having the biggest and best shipping industry in the world, and makes great viewing.
