Thames Estuary Sailor’s View

by Krispen Atkinson, David Walker & Andrew McAlpine

The year was another interesting one for shipping, and this book attempts to show some of the events which happened during 2017. The industry was still coping with the effects following the departure of some well known owners the previous year. In particular, a number of container ships which had been operated by large

South Korean owner Hanjin were still lying around idle, with the most useful ships being taken by MSC and Maersk, whilst older units found themselves heading for the beach. The container market was going through changes, with the major container lines finalising the reshuffle within the three main alliances.

In the UK, it was dubbed the ‘Year of the Navy’, with a handful of new ships being delivered, most notably HMS Queen Elizabeth which entered Portsmouth harbour for the first time in August.

This is well put together book backed up with good photographs and I would highly recommend it.
