The remains of the Costa Concordia are currently in the process of being scrapped in the port of Genoa whilst the trial of her Captain, Francesco Schettino, drew to a close.
The prosecutor recommended that the Italian court imprison the defendant for more than 26 years for his part in the 2012 cruise ship grounding which caused 32 deaths.
The penalty decide was 16 years and 1 month imprisonment, although Schettino’s lawyer immediately set in motion an appeal against the sentence which will drag this saga on for several more months.
