BC Ferries’ 4,939gt/1964 built Queen of Nanaimo was set out of position due to high winds while departing the Village Bay terminal on Mayne Island at 1045 on 2nd November.

Both anchors were deployed and there were no reports of any injuries to the crew or the two passengers that were on board the vessel at the time of the incident. The Queen of Nanaimo returned to Long Harbour on Salt Spring Island with the assistance of tugs prior to being taken out of service for an inspection.

The Tsawwassen-Southern Gulf Islands ferry sustained damage to her starboard propeller, shaft and aft hull section so was withdrawn until further notice whilst repairs were undertaken. Due to refits there was no standby vessel available and repairs were carried out from 6th November.
