Cuba has granted approval for Carnival Corporation & plc to begin travel to Cuba from Miami starting on 1st May 2016 thus clearing the company’s 30,277gt/2001 built Adonia to sail to Cuba under the corporation’s newest brand of Fathom. The formation of Fathom was largely considered to be in anticipation of access to the Cuban cruise market and the tactical move appears to have paid off.Cuban authorities from Havanatur Celimar, various other agencies and Carnival Corporation have signed agreements enabling cruising by Carnival Corporation to Cuba. This marks the first time in over 50 years a cruise ship is approved to sail from the USA to Cuba. Fathom had to cancel its first cruise to the Dominican Republic on 10th April after being informed by the US Coast Guard that the Adonia would require additional tests before leaving the port. The ship was fresh from refit.
