1400 Years of Historic Ships
by Rorke Bryan Paintings by Austin Dwyer
Ships to Remember is a beautifully illustrated collection of 25 stories about remarkable ships from around the world. The vessels chosen had interest- ing and dramatic careers and cover 1400 years of world history.
Some are famous like HMS Beagle and Cutty Sark, but many, like the tugs Yelcho, Foundation Franklin and Turmoil are virtually unknown.
The book includes two boats, the Bounty’s launch and the James Caird, which completed two of the most extraordinary voyages in maritime history.
Other stories cover the catastrophic sinking and eventual recovery of the Swedish warship Vasa, Nelson’s triumph on HMS Elephant at the Battle of
Copenhagen, and the pivotal Second World War relief of Malta by the tanker, Ohio.
The book is illustrated by professional maritime painter Austin Dwyer. Maps depict each vessel’s seminal voyages and text boxes provide technical details and history of each ship
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, particularly as it featured some lesser known vessels that are well worthy of mentioning.
I would very highly recommend this book to our readers.
