This month’s unknown is the 1,598 grt coaster Somersbydyke completed by the Goole Shipbuilding & repairing Co. Ltd. during May 1967 to the order of the Klondyke Shipping Company Ltd. of Hull. With registered dimensions of 301.8 x 43.9 x 17.0 feet, her main propulsion machinery consisted of an 8 cylinder, 4 stroke single acting 1,800 BHP oil engine, constructed by Mirrlees National Ltd., Stockport, to return a maximum service speed of 11.5 knots. During 1978 Somersbydyke was sold and registered to the ownership of Stephenson Clarke Shipping Ltd., of London, but it was not until 1979, by which time William Robertson Shipowners Ltd. had been formally made a subsidiary of Stephenson Clarke and although repainted to reflect the latter’s identity, the traditional Robertson name of Pearl was bestowed upon her.
Four years later she was sold to Bremar Shipping Ltd., Cayman islands when renamed Rosemount, registered at Georgetown and placed under the management of Lindsay Terminals & Trading Co. Ltd. of Leith. From 1984 onwards she endured a series of ongoing disposals, ownership transfers and renamings as follows:
