Having bid farewell to Avonmouth on 9th October the former CMV operated 20,636gt/1971 built Discovery sailed to Falmouth where she was handed over by All Leisure Services Ltd. to Liberty Resources Inc. of Nassau for a bargain $5 million, approximately half of her estimated valued.
On 13th February, the company had said that it had written down the value of the Discovery to approximately £9.9m including spares. The losses attributable to the Discovery for the year ended 31st October 2013 were in excess of £3 million. The Discovery sailed for Gibraltar from Falmouth and onwards with a destination showing as Dubai. She was also renamed as the Amen and registered under the flag of St. Kitts Nevis. It is almost certain that the ship will end up on the beaches of Alang having transitted the Suez Canal.

The much loved Discovery was built in Germany in 1971 as the Island Venture for Flagship Cruises and three years later she and her sister ship Sea Venture were purchased by Princess Cruises and renamed Island Princess and Pacific Princess, respectively. The latter became well known in the 1980s as stage for Love Boat, the US television series although both ships featured.
The Discovery was disposed of ahead of the conclusion of her 2014 season so the remaining cruises were operated by Portuscale Cruises’ 9,563gt/1961 built Funchal with her schedule from Avonmouth on 21st October diverted to Liverpool due to Hurricane Gonzalo passing through and the delays caused two ports of call to be lost. In 2015 Portuscale Cruises’ 16,144gt/1948 Azores is due to replace the Discovery from January.
