On 20th January the 46,700gt/2012 built coal carrier C.S. Sunshine rescued all 24 members of the Chinese crew from a disabled and sinking freighter, the 13,295gt/1982 built Rich Forest. The ship, operated by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) was sailing 700 km west of Guam when she was called upon to help the sailors in trouble.

The 228 metre long C. S. Sunshine was sailing from Newcastle, Australia, bound for Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, Japan when she received a distress from the Panama-flagged vessel without power. The ship proceeded to the casualty and two days later the rescued seafarers were transferred to a U.S. Coast Guard vessel.
