On 30th November it was reported that the ANEK Lines ferry Ierapetra L had suffered an engine room fire whilst approximately 25 miles off of Brindisi (above). The fire was extinguished by the ship’s crew, consisting of 23 personnel.

Prior to this the ferry had been in Igoumenitsa for a month undergoing maintenance work. Patrol vessels and the Coastguard attended and the Ierapetra L was escorted in to Brindisi for inspection.
The 7,505gt ship was built in 1975 as the Green Arch for Hiroshima Green Ferry in Japan and currently has capacity for 1,300 passengers.
