The French company CMA CGM has confirmed it is the charterer behind the order of eight post-panamax 9,300-9,400teu ships placed by two Chinese bank-affiliated leasing companies. CMA CGM said it would deploy the ships on markets that need the capacity, although it declined to provide further details.

Three of the eight ships were ordered by the Bank of Communications Financial Leasing to be built by China Shipping Industry Co. The other five were ordered by Minsheng Financial Leasing, three to be built by Samsung Heavy Industries and two by CIC.
These orders follow on from the five vessels of 9,300 teu ordered by BoComm for charter to CMA CGM in November 2013. The 13 ships will be delivered from 2015 with 19 other newbuilds also on the order books.
