The following is a selection of Cruise News focusing on the new ships joining cruise lines.
Celebrity Cruises’ 130,818gt/2018-built Celebrity Edge has made her debut in Alaska on 20th May from Seattle for her inaugural season in the region. The Celebrity Edge also became the first from her namesake series of ships to sail in Alaska (above). Sistership Celebrity Apex (130,818gt/built 2020) made her first departure from Southampton for her inaugural season at the port on 15th May.
Havila Kystruten’s 15,519gt/2023-built Havila Pollux was christened on 13th May by Erna Solberg, former Prime Minister of Norway, at Bryggen in Bergen (above). The ship is the fourth of four eco-friendly newbuilds delivered, the others being the 15,519gt/2021-built Havila Capella, the 2022-built Havila Castor and the 2023-built Havila Polaris. The Polaris and Pollux were delivered from the Tersan Shipyard in Turkey on 1st August 2023.
Mitsui Ocean Cruises announced in May that the 32,477gt/2009-built Mitsui Ocean Fuji, ex-Seabourn Odyssey (above), is scheduled to enter service in December 2024. The company is part of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and the debut season will consist of 6 cruises from the Kanto, Chubu, and Kansai regions from 1st December to 8th January 2025. Ports of call include Beppu, Shingu, Kochi, Takamatsu, Kagoshima, and Busan and Jeju Island in South Korea. All cruises have a duration of 5-10 days.
Silversea took delivery of the 55,051gt/2024-built Silver Ray (above) on 14th May, the second ship in the Nova class. Executives from Royal Caribbean Group (RCG) and the Meyer Werft shipyard celebrated the occasion aboard the ship at Eemshaven in The Netherlands. The Silver Ray was set to embark on her maiden voyage from Lisbon on 15th June, spending her inaugural season in the Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic to the Americas in December 2024. Sistership Silver Nova was delivered from Meyer Werft in 2023.
