The Steel Cutting Ceremony for the third Quantum Class Ship on 18th September marked the first milestone in the construction process. At the time the Quantum of the Seas was on the verge of her Ems conveyance and the Anthem of the Seas was already taking shape in Meyer Werft’s building hall. To be named Ovation of the Seas, the third Quantum Class member will be delivered in the autumn of 2016.
Each 167,800gt Quantum Class ship spans 18 decks, will carry 4,180 guests at double occupancy and features 2,090 staterooms. The trio will continue Royal Caribbean’s reputation for innovation with multiple cruise ship firsts, including a skydiving simulator; North Star, a jewel-shaped glass capsule that rises 300 feet above sea level and provides 360-degree views from high above the ship plus the Seaplex sports and entertainment space with bumper cars, roller skating and a circus school. The ships will also offer “virtual balconies” in inside cabins and a flexible dining system that eliminates set dining times and main dining rooms.
The Quantum of the Seas will homeport at Cape Liberty in New York Harbour for her inaugural season before repositioning to Shanghai (Baoshan), China. The Anthem of the Seas will debut in Southampton in April 2015 sailing Mediterranean itineraries.
