On 22nd July a fire hit Royal Caribbean’s 154,407gt/2006 built Freedom of the Seas whilst on a seven-night cruise out of Cape Canaveral, Florida to the Caribbean. Royal Caribbean international said in a statement that the fire broke out in a mechanical area aboard the ship as she arrived in Falmouth, Jamaica resulting in black smoke belching out around the area of her funnel.

The ship’s fire suppression system was immediately activated, which contained and extinguished the fire. One crewmember sustained first-degree burns in the incident, but all guests were accounted for and none were injured. The Freedom of the Seas continued her scheduled itinerary as a clean-up operation ensued, with the next stop in George Town, Grand Cayman on Thursday.
