On 19th September the State of Finland and the German shipbuilder Meyer Werft finalised the purchase of the whole share capital of STX Finland Oy from STX Europe Ltd. Having initially published the signing of the acquisition agreement on 4th August 2014. The German antitrust authority approved the corporate acquisition after completing a merger control review and final decisions regarding construction financing with the commercial banks have also been obtained. The new name of the company is Meyer Turku Oy.
The Turku Shipyard is capable of building all types of vessels, but will focus on cruise ships, ferries, and special ships. The order from German TUI Cruises for two new cruise ships from Meyer Turku has now become effective. The ships will be sisters of Mein Schiff 3, which was delivered from the Turku Shipyard in May 2014, and Mein Schiff 4, which will be delivered to TUI Cruises in May 2015. The Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 6 will be delivered in 2016 and 2017. Furthermore there are options for a further two sister ships for delivery in 2018 and 2019.
The new look Turku shipyard celebrated an historic day on 10th October 2014 when the TUI cruise ship Mein Schiff 4 became the first ship to be floated out under the new trading name. The 99,526gt Mein Schiff 4 will be handed over to her owners in spring 2015.
