On 13th August Princess Cruises announced that its newest ship will be named by the original cast of US TV show, The Love Boat. The 142,714gt Regal Princess, a 3,560 guest ship that first entered service in May 2014, will be christened on 5th November 2014 by the cast who will subsequently serve as ‘godparents’.
The ceremony will take place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and officially launch Princess Cruises’ golden anniversary celebrations. The line, which began sailing in 1965, will mark five decades of operation from the end of this year and throughout 2015. After her naming, the Regal Princess will begin her maiden season of Caribbean cruising.
November will also see the debut of a new nocturnal experience on the Regal Princess enabling guests to enjoy a contemporary outdoor nightclub under the stars. The Night Sky Lounge is born out of the top deck Retreat Pool one night during each cruise, inviting guests to enjoy an open-air nightclub, including atmospheric pool and lighting,
glowing drinks and a DJ on a state-of-the-art audio system.
In July Princess Cruises revealed plans to build a 600m Euro sister ship to the Regal Princess and Royal Princess, which will launch in 2017.
