On 10th January Norwegian Cruise Line took delivery of the 145,655 gross ton cruise ship Norwegian Getaway from Meyer Werft, after a building period of only 15 months, at a ceremony in Bremerhaven. The 325.70m long ship, the second of two Breakaway Class ships, has been delivered just nine months after the launch of sister-ship Norwegian Breakaway.

Following delivery, the ship sailed to Rotterdam for the start of inaugural festivities the following day, which continued at Southampton 14th-16th January before the ship departed for her transatlantic cruise to New York. The ship will be christened in Miami on 7th February.

Meanwhile, NCL has signed a deal with Port Miami to base another new ship in Miami on a year-round basis. The port will pay the Miami-based cruise line $3 million for marketing costs before the 4,200-passenger Norwegian Escape arrives in the autumn of 2015. The company’s latest ship, Norwegian Getaway, will sail from Miami year-round starting in February 2014.
