Cruise lines have amassed a record cruise order book with no fewer than 24 firm orders being placed since the start of 2014 including 15 with capacity in excess of 3,000 passenger berths.

At the time that these figures were released the order book consisted of 41 vessels with a combined berth capacity of 120,664, equivalent to 25% of the current fleet.

In the 3,000 plus berth sector the order book is equivalent to 73% of the current fleet. The “mega ship” orders are largely the responsibility of royal Caribbean and Carnival Corporation.
