In line with Beijing’s call for Chinese yards to acquire overseas shipbuilders, Shanghai-based Zhenhua Port Machinery Co. has revealed that the company is looking to acquire German shipbuilding firm JJ Sietas Schiffswerft in Hamburg.

The troubled yard has expertise in the construction of heavylift vessels, geared bulkers, dredgers, RoRos, offshore wind vessels and container feederships. The Chinese port equipment manufacturer is said to be interested in the German shipyard’s design capability.
