Stena Bulk has taken delivery of the IMOIIIMAX 29,666gt medium range (MR) product tanker Stena Impression (above), the first in a series of 10 ships costing $400 million with deliveries ongoing until 2017.

Stena Bulk’s new MR tankers, joining its 40-strong fleet, aim to capitalise on freight market improvements. The new 50,000dwt Stena Impression can handle more hazardous cargoes, such as chemicals, as well as oil products. The vessel is owned by Stena Bulk and Sinarmas Agribusiness and Food in a newly formed 50-50 joint venture and will be deployed in the fleet of Stena Weco, another joint venture comprising Stena Bulk and Danish company Dannebrog, part of the Weco Group.
The ship was named in Singapore on 4th February by her Godmother, Jesslyne Widjaja, Director Corporate Strategy & Business Development, GAR. The ship’s Captain is Jacob Valiaveed and on 5th February the ship began her maiden voyage with a cargo of palm oil bound for the USA.
